THOROUGHBRED IMPORT/EXPORT TRENDS

Total Thoroughbred exports increased for the fourth consecutive year in 2007, rising 7.6% on the strength of foreign currencies against the U.S. dollar, international demand for American bloodlines, and successful recruitment of foreign buyers by domestic sales companies and state breeder associations. Over the past five years, total exports have increased 27.8%, with the largest percentage gain occurring in Central/South America, where exports have risen 91.3% since 2002. During this time, exports to Europe and the Pacific Rim have increased 25.2% and 4.7%, respectively.
